About Us

Land & Lakes Real Estate was started in the mid 1980's by Donna Harris and Carolyn Ballenger, sisters and partners. At that time, Donna was a Builder and Contractor and began this business in order to sell her own buildings.

The sisters started with a small office in an old medical building in Portage, and remained there for 8 years. They moved to their current office at 6440 Melton Road in Portage where they have prospered as a full service Real Estate for the past 12 years. Land & Lakes Real Estate combines Donna's expertise and leadership along with a professional staff of independent agents for outstanding service to each client. One on one personal service is given to each client with close attention to the detail of all aspects of the clients' real estate needs.

Carolyn's interests lean more towards travel than real estate, being a world traveler since a young age. Carolyn is also a teacher of 35 years. The sisters opened Cruises & More Travel, Inc. in 1995, sharing the same building.

Donna and Carolyn began their Real Estate Continuing Education cruses approximately 10 years ago, combining the interests of both businesses. Each year they sponsor between 2 and 4 cruises for Northern Indiana Realtors, enabling realtors to complete all 16 hours required on one cruise (not a bad write off for your Realtors). Cruises & More Travel pays for the classes. What a great way to keep your real estate education up to date.
